Biopori Use As A Campus Environment Development Strategy to "Green Technology Campus"
Biopori Use As A Campus Environment Development Strategy to "Green Technology Campus"
Abstract: The environment can qualify the lives of the occupants when the situation and the condition of the environment can be tailored to the minimum needs of the occupants.Kelvin (1962) in his book "Site Planning" remind that the environment should provide enough facilities such as housing, light, water, air, free from noise disturbance, a place to hold day-to-day activity without leaving the aesthetics. It is possible for the campus to provide a comfortable environment, cool, neat and beautiful, so that teaching and learning conditions for the campus academic is not disturbed. However, in Indonesia, there are environmental issues that the campus atmosphere is quite hot at noon, there is a puddle which is quite annoying when the rains come and there is no good management for the utilization of organic waste to build self-sufficient in the maintenance of campus environment (parks) in order to become a cool and comfortable green campus. And it is also important to know that many campus buildings are near market locations, the buildings of the campus have the lack of trees, and the campus usually has dry soil which is less fertile.Because of that conditions, this paper aim to give an idea how to improve the quality of the campus environment. The idea is making Biopori Infiltration Hole (LRB) by using organic waste compost for fertilizing the each park at the campus. This is the same like R. Kamir Brata’s opinion. He is a researcher from the Institute of Agriculture (IPB), who developed a way to encourage the formation of biopori through Biopori Infiltration Hole (LRB). The LRB is as the power of absorbing water in the soil which makes the hole in the ground and we fill it with organic waste to produce compost. The organic waste which is filled into the hole can feed the soil fauna, which is able to create pores in the soil, and the use of biopori on campus as a step to creat a green campus or as we call green technology campus. This paper aims to manage the campus environment by using implementable and effective Biopori Infiltration Hole (LRB) to create a cool and confortable campus environment and free of environmental problems. The design this paper’s idea will present (1) the campus environmental issues, (2) the benefits of biopori for the environment, (3) the implementation of Biopori in creating green technology campus, and (4) the prediction of the results of biopori utilization at the campus. The writing method used in this paper is a descriptive analytic method that includes literature as a theoretical basis in analyzing the problem, observation of phenomena is used as a starting point for discussion of a problem and look for which is the most urgent problems, and the discussion focuses to share opinions with the campus fellow related with this idea. In its application, it is expected that the results of this paper becoming a way to reduce global warming and becoming a step to go green campus which has a cool and confortable environment and can reduce environmental problems.
